作为一名演员，约翰在电视屏幕上出现的次数并不多。《指环王：国王归来》(Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King)中的丹尼瑟(Denethor)由约翰扮演，也正是这一角色使他闻名于世。约翰的最新电影作品是《白色噪音》(White Noise)，2006年的热门电视剧《反恐24小时》(24)的第六季也有约翰的身影，他在其中扮演俄罗斯通信官安托尼-马库沃(Anatoly Markov)。
